Before you read this, just don’t judge me. Ok. So on this Easter break I decided that I wanted to go and see my mom. She lives out of town, so I just have to make a short trip to see her. Sounds easy enough, right?? Wrong. I made plans to catch a bus at 10:10 on Thursday morning to get on a bus that would take me out of town to where my mom lived. Don’t ask how, but somehow I forgot this and missed the bus. (I’m 16 and the bus is my only means of transportation. I can’t drive. My dad works night shift. And my mom had just gotten surgery two days before to she couldn’t come and get me. Normally I would just ask my stepmom to take me out of town to where my mom lives, but SHE had just gotten surgery two days before as well). So I get to the bus station and im waiting for my bus to come. One comes, and I’m sitting inside my dads car because he took me to wait for it, but instead of the bus stopping and allowing me time to get on the bus, it kept rolling past. So me, dumb as I am, call the company and try to tell them that the bus did not stop, but just as I was about to call another bus pulled up. I’m ready for this one. I got out and was waiting when it pulled up. I got on and asked the bus driver if he was taking me to one city where I would get my transfer to go to another city and he said yes. So I paid my $4 and sat down. As I was riding I noticed that he had gone into a city that was NOT the city that I was supposed to go to. But me, still being DUMB, sat back and rode. So eventually I got to the correct city. 2 HOURS LATER!! (It was only supposed to take 40 minutes) So I get into the city and ask the driver what time the transfer bus was supposed to come. He looked at me like I was a 3 headed cockroach and replied “That bus has already departed.” … WHAT?!? ALREADY DEPARTED?!? WHAT?!? That was what my head said. My mouth, however, said “Oh… Ok…” I got off and called my mom, who was still about an hour away and asked her to get me. She told me that I would have to call my grandma, who was at work, so that she could call my aunt who would call my cousin who would come and get me. Then I called my mom back and told her, but then she said that she had called my cousin who was in a town that was in the middle of where she was and where I was, and that he was coming to get me. While I was in the middle of a call with her, a man came up to me and offered me a ride to wherever I needed to get to. “Ugh… no thank you.” I responded because he was creepy and I was taught not to accept rides from people randomly walking in the streets. I walked away and began looking for a 24 hour restaurant because it was 8:30 by then. After I began walking however, my grandma called me and told me that my cousin was coming to get me. She told me to just stay in one place so that they could find me, and I said ok and walked back to the bus station. As I was walking back, however, my mom called me and told me to walk away from where I was and to go to a restaurant because of the creepy people. So then I turned BACK around and began walking to find another restaurant. When I was walking then, my grandmother called me AGAIN and told me that my cousin was outside the bus station looking for me and that I needed to find him. I told her that I had walked away because my mom told me to find a restaurant, so she told me to turn BACK AROUND to find my cousin. So I walked back to the bus station, found my cousin, and got him to get me. My mom then called me AGAIN and told me to go to a restaurant and wait there for my OTHER cousin. So I told my cousin to take me to a restaurant and to leave me there so that I could be found by my other cousin. He took me, left me, and I sat there waiting an HOUR for my cousin to get me. Now I’m on my way to another restaurant to meet my mother who, not supposed to be driving, is going to get me and bring me to her house.
My “fun” Thursday night
A Second Longer
They sit together in a dark house, at the foot of a dark hill, in the middle of a dark night.
Their house is silent only to them. A stranger would notice the rustling of the pages of the book in the man’s lap, the click of the needles held carefully in the…
